Maui in January

We stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa in Ka'anapali. We were on the 10th floor and had an incredible view.   After seeing how much sand we brought back each day to the room I have a lot of respect for the housekeeping staff! The whole property is attractively layed out with birds and plantlife surrounding you everywhere. The style flowed effortlessly with Maui's natural beauty.  The staff was super friendly in every area we interacted with them.

I bought this Roxy Chill Out Insulated Cooler Tote specifically for the trip and I just loved it.  It has an insulated bottom which I used to hold cold bottles of water when we went to the beach and then I used it to hold our sunglasses and cellphones  when we went out to dinner. It was also good for the plane portion of our trip- we bought sandwiches at the airport and then I just kept them in the bag until we were ready to eat!

Maui was a great experience. Each time we drove along the road between the land and sea we saw Humpback whales spouting, breeching and flipping their tales out of the water. We spent most of our days on the beach, playing in the sand and snorkeling.  We went to big well known beaches such as Makena (which has the softest sand ever) and Ka'anapali as well as to neighborhood beaches like Kamaole.  We went on the Maui Tropical Plantation tour- it was cool to see how macadamia nuts, taro, coconuts and more look before they make it to the supermarket.  We also went to the Maui Ocean Center. In Old Lahaina we went to a few different restaurants, bought our souvenirs from the ABC store and had the best shaved ice at a place that I can't remember the name of anymore.

I think everyone's favorite place that we ate at was the Aloha Mix Plate.  We went there a few times because it had a lot going for it- it was inexpensive and delicious with big portions.  The staff was pretty nice, and the food came fast.  It was fun because next door is the Old Lahaina Luau, so you could hear the music and drumming from the show, and sometimes the performers passed by as the made their way to the backside of the stage so it was a kind of mini luau bonus.
