The Aviator Jacket

One of my favorite shows from Fall Ready-to-Wear 2010 was the one from Burberry Prorsum.  There were lots of cool aviator-inspired jackets. This was my favorite one:

I was reminded of the history behind this style on a visit to the Museum of Flight.  In an exhibit entitled, "Profiles in Courage,"  I walked through reconstructed moments from World War I and World War II.

There were photographs, planes, weapons, music and many other artifacts from those uncertain times.  It was a fascinating window into the past.  Now the jacket just looks good, but back then it was vital to wear up in the skies as protection from the elements.
